American alternative rock musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Beck (birth name Bek David Campbell) was born on July 8, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. After dropping out of high school in the mid-1980s, he traveled to Europe and developed his musical talent by busking. The late 1980s found him in New York City, involved in the punk-influenced anti-folk music movement. In 1996, he released his second and most successful album, Odelay, which produced several hit singles, including "Where It's At", "Devils Haircut," and "The New Pollution". The album peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually sold over 2 million copies in the United States. The album, also earned a number of industry awards, including two Grammys.
