British folk rock and pop singer-songwriter and musician Cat Stevens (birth name Steven Demetre Georgiou) was born on 21 July 1948, London, England United Kingdom. Though he enjoyed art, he wanted to establish a musical career and began to perform originally under the stage name "Steve Adams" in 1965 while at Hammersmith. At that point, his goal was to become a songwriter. In 1965 he signed a publishing deal with Ardmore & Beechwood and cut several demos, including "The First Cut Is the Deepest". He achieved mainstream success in 1970 with his album, Tea for the Tillerman, which produced well-known singles such as "Where Do the Children Play?," "Hard Headed Woman," "Wild World," "Sad Lisa," "Into White" and "Father and Son".
