Jamaican roots reggae band the Gladiators from Kingston, Jamaica, was formed in 1968. The band comprises Albert Griffiths, Dallimore Sutherland, Alan Griffiths and Anthony Griffiths. Albert Griffiths, singer and guitar player was the founder of this reggae band. In 1976, they signed with Virgin Records. They quickly gained popularity in 1976 with their breakthrough album, Trenchtown Mix Up, which included cover versions of Bob Marley's "Soul Rebel" and "Rude Boy Ska". This album also included re-recordings of two songs originally recorded at Studio One ("Mix Up", originally titled "Bongo Red", and their 1968 debut release "Hello Carol"). Trenchtown Mix Up was also recorded at Joe Gibbs' studio and released on TR International/Virgin Records'.
