| Biography: |
American hard rock, protopunk, punk rock, garage rock and glam rock singer, songwriter, and occasional actor Iggy Pop (birth name James Newell Osterberg, Jr.) was born on April 21, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, United States. He earned a place in punk rock history by popularizing many of the stage routines that are now commonplace among musicians: he was among the first to stage dive and crowd walk. Moreover, early in his career, he was known to cut himself on stage. Although Pop has never recorded a Top 10 album or best-selling single, his impact on rock music is widely acknowledged. In 1977, he released his debut solo album, The Idiot, which spawned three singles, "Sister Midnight", "Nightclubbing" and "China Girl".
