American Christian hip hop and gospel music singer Kirk Franklin was born on January 26, 1970, in Fort Worth, Texas United States. He was raised by his great aunt Gertrude, having been abandoned as a baby by his mother. Gertrude collected and resold aluminum cans to raise money for Kirk to take piano lessons from the age of 4. He excelled in music, able to read and write music by ear. He received his first contract offer at the age of 7, which his aunt turned down. In the early 90's he organized "The Family", a seventeen-voice choir, formed from neighborhood friends and associates. In 1993, they released their self-titled debut album, Kirk Franklin & The Family. He achieved mainstream success as a solo singer in 1998 with his debut album, The Nu Nation Project, which yielded several hit singles, "Lean on Me" (featuring Bono (lead singer of U2), Crystal Lewis, Mary J. Blige and R. Kelly) and "Gonna Be a Lovely Day". And now, you may download this album by Kirk Franklin in mp3 from our site.
