American rock, hard rock, funk rock, neo-psychedelia, pop rock, soul, R&B and blues-rock singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer Lenny Kravitz (birth name Leonard Albert "Lenny" Kravitz) was born on May 26, 1964, in New York City, New York, USA. He began banging on pots and pans in the kitchen, playing them as drums at the age of three. At the age of five, he wanted to be a musician. He began playing the drums and soon added guitar. He grew up listening to the music his parents listened to: R&B, jazz, classical, opera, gospel, and blues. He rose to fame in 1989 with his debut album, Let Love Rule, which reached number 61 on the Billboard 200, while it peaked at number 56 on the UK Album Chart. It also spawned the "Let Love Rule", "I Build This Garden For Us", "Mr. Cab Driver", "Be" and "Does Anybody Out There Even Care".
