Biography: Swedish heavy metal, progressive death metal and progressive rock band Opeth from Stockholm, was formed in 1990. The band comprises Mikael Åkerfeldt (lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitars, acoustic guitars), Martin Mendez (bass), Per Wiberg (keyboards, backing vocals), Martin "Axe" Axenrot (drums, percussion) and Fredrik Åkesson (rhythm and lead guitars, backing vocals). Originally the band's members were influenced by heavy metal bands including Slayer, Death, Black Sabbath and Morbid Angel. Later, they discovered progressive rock and folk rock music styles. They achieved mainstream success in 2003 with their seventh album, Damnation, which reached number 192 on the Billboard Top 200.
