Rodrigo y Gabriela, which means Rodrigo and Gabriela, are a Mexican acoustic duo from Mexico City, Mexico formed in 2000. The duo composes of Rodrigo Sanchez (lead guitar) and of Gabriela Quintero (rhythm guitar). They met each other when both played in a Mexican thrash metal band “Tierra Acida”. As they were limited by the local scene the decided to move in Europe in order to gain more popularity. The duo settled in Dublin, Ireland and began performing in local clubs and pubs. The duo was right choosing a place to settle. Their debut album Rodrigo y Gabriela hit the top spot of the Irish charts beating Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash. The album spawned two singles – “Tamacun” and cover for Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”. The album was certified Platinum in Ireland.
