Grammy Award-nominated American glam rock, alternative and electroclash band Scissor Sisters from New York City, New York, was formed in 2001. The band comprises Jake Shears (born Jason Sellards) – vocals, Babydaddy (born Scott Hoffman) – bass guitar, keyboards, vocals, guitar, Ana Matronic (born Ana Lynch) – vocals and Del Marquis (born Derek Gruen) – guitar, bass guitar. Originally the band was formed when Shears met Babydaddy while visiting a friend in Kentucky. They quickly gained popularity in 2004 with their breakthrough self-titled debut album, which reached number 1 on the UK and Irish album charts, and was the best-selling album in the UK for the year 2004. In Ireland it has been certified a close 5x Platinum. The album also spawned the hit singles, "Laura", "Take Your Mama", "Comfortably Numb", "Mary", "Filthy/Gorgeous" and "Return to Oz".
