Sigur Rós is an Icalandic post-rock band formed in Reykjavik, Icaland in 1994. The band’s lineup consists of Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson (vocals, guitar, bowed guitar, keyboards, harmonica, banjo), Georg "Goggi" Hólm (bass guitar, glockenspiel), Kjartan "Kjarri" Sveinsson (keyboard, piano, organs, guitar, flute, tin whistle, oboe, banjo, vocals), and of Orri Páll Dýrason (drums, keyboards). The band has released 5 studio albums. The debut album Von was released in 1997 and sales were incredibly poor, selling only 313 copies during the first year but eventually Iceland’s record industry association certified it Platinum. All other their consecutive albums reached the top spot of the charts in Iceland and the breakthrough album to the international market was Takk, which reached the Gold status in the U.K.
