American alternative rock, grunge and hard rock band Stone Temple Pilots from San Diego, California, was formed in 1986. The band comprises Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Robert (bass guitar, vocals) and Dean DeLeo (guitar), and Eric Kretz (drums, percussion). The band can trace its beginnings to a Black Flag concert in Long Beach California in 1986, where Scott Weiland met Robert DeLeo. They quickly gained popularity in 1992 with their breakthrough debut album, Core, which peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200, has been certified 8x platinum by the RIAA, making it the band's best-selling album. The album also spawned the singles, "Sex Type Thing", "Plush" and "Creep". "Plush" won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The band also won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist award at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards.
