Biography: Christian metal band Stryper was formed in Orange County, California, the US in 1983. The band members are Michael Sweet, Robert Sweet, Oz Fox and Tracy Ferrie. The band is considered to be the pioneer of mainstream Christian metal and they were the first who made it to be popular. The band was inspired by Van Halen’s sound but was disappointed in their message so they decided to play metal according to their beliefs. The first big success happened in 1985 when they released the album Soldiers under Command which went Gold. Propelled by such unexpected success they released To Hell with the Devil (1986) which became Platinum. It was the first Christian music album to reach such an achievement. In the early 90s the band’s popularity went down and the group split. But in 2003 they reformed. The band has released their newest album Murder by Pride in 2009.
