Hikaru Utada, known as Utada in Europe and America and as Hikki is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter, arranger and records producer. She was born on January 19, 1983 in New York City, New York, the United States. Utada works in such genres as J-pop, pop, experimental rock, dance, funk and hip-hop. Her breakthrough to the mainstream success happened in 1999 with a release of her album First Love. It has become the best-selling album in Oricon’s recent history. Her albums are ranked as one of the best-selling in Japan history, they reached #1, #4 and #8. Time Magazine called her “Diva on Campus” while she was attending Columbia University in her brief career-break.
