James Augustine Aloysius Joyce, known mainly as James Joyce was an Irish expatriate author born on February 2, 1882 in Rathgar, Dublin, Ireland and died on January 13 1941 in Zurich, Switzerland. Most of his adult life he spent outside of his motherland thus he became one of the most cosmopolitan English language writers of his time. At the same time all his fictional universe is firmly connected with his native town, Dublin. During his life he lived in Zurich, Trieste, Roma and Paris. Some of his main works are Dubliners, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Exiles, Finnegans Wake and of course Ulysses, the landmark novel and one of masterpieces of world literature.
