Haruki Murakami is a popular Japanese author born on January 12, 1949 in Kyoto, Japan. He spent his youth in other cities like Kobe, Ashiya and Shukagawa. Murakami was influenced by Western culture and literature a lot, he names Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Brautigan as his influences as he was reading them a lot during his youth. He studied drama in Tokyo and met his future wife there. Together they opened a record store and later opened a coffeehouse that was jazz bar in the evenings. His debut novel Hear the Wind Sing was released in 1979 and the last one 1Q84 came out in 2009 (in Japanese).
